Listen here (MP3) for the speech that earned Dr. King the contempt of every major politician and newspaper in the country, though you’d never know it nowadays. When he made this connection between capitalism and colonization, he broke the taboo that had been in place ever since W. E. B. DuBois was expelled from the NAACP that he helped found, and the Black Freedom Movement was co-opted into using the language of US nationalism.
